It's been quite awhile since I've created a painting that I really like. My newest piece, White Grass, is one of my new favorites. I was inspired by my friend Elayna and her gorgeous hand painted silks. To me this painting reflects the coming of spring, new beginnings, and peacefullness.
Yesterday my sweet hubby made me a frame for the painting. He's pretty new to woodworking, but is really enjoying it. So I thought I'd spring a new project on him. When I returned from church last night, he already had it hanging in the living room! It looks so good. Thanks sweetie! xoxo
...I found out this weekend that I need to renew my membership to BoundlessGallery. So, I'll be doing that today. =) I also want to continue with this grass series. The next one is going to be smaller, but hopefully have some key similarities.
I hope this isn't any indication of how my year is going to be...hmmm. Nope. I won't let it! Happy New Year's anyway!
So far this year has been great! I started back to school yesterday. It was a teacher work day, so I was able to get a few things done that I've been needing to finish. I still have a long road ahead of me until the end of the year. But I'm going to be positive about it. Gallery Night is coming up sooner than we know it. I believe it's in April, but I don't have an exact date yet. Gallery Night is the last big fundraiser of the year for the art program at our school. I figured out that I have six/seven more classes with my students before the big night. Which means we ALL have a lot of work to do. I can't wait to get started. I'm going to introduce pinhole photography and digital. It should be interesting...
On another note, I already have a nice commission that I'm working on. I'm very excited about it. It's a similar painting to one that I was commissioned to do last year of a man and a woman. I'm making it as similar to the one before, but I'm hoping to resolve some issues that I was having with proportions. So far so good. After working on them yesterday I wasn't too happy. But I sketched on them a bit before I went to bed and came into the studio today feeling very positive. One thing that I'm doing differently is that I'm working on them both at the same time. Last time I did one and then started the other. By working on them together I think they won't look so seperate and have a continuity that I'm looking for.
Reflect was inspired by the reflecting on our lives and how often we overlook the reflections we can actually see with our own eyes. Sometimes we look back on the past and are filled with a great satisfaction of accomplishments. Then there are other times that we just assume never happened. But if we look deeper into those precious memories, we realize that without all the trials of life, we wouldn't be able to appreciate what we have become.
Reflect was a commission that I accquired last month. Reflect I was part of a diptych and was given back to me yesterday. The client decided that one of the two paintings would be best. I'm happy to announce that it is now for sale at www.boundlessgallery.com and www.hometownartgallery.com . Don't miss out on this great opportunity. It's an awesome painting. For now, I'll be enjoying it!
This week has been kind of hectic. Monday I went to school with a bad cold and ended up back home with a fever. I was scheduled to teach two classes and ended up rescheduling them. But I also had to get more sketches made for a new client for a possible commission. I ended up meeting with him later in the day and talking more about what he's wanting. In the end, I was awarded the job and the freedom to create pretty much whatever I want. Can't beat that! Of course, I laid in bed that night for hours just thinking about possibilities and which direction I'm going to take.
By Wednesday I was feeling better and had a full day ahead of me. I had three classes and then was meeting with a parent to help me with a fundraiser that our program participated in. It's called Original Works. I had each class create an artwork that could be printed onto products such as mugs, pot holders, magnets, calendars, etc. It was a little stressful at first because I had to make sure each class participated and finished their work by a certain date. Not to mention it's my first year teaching and heading a fundraiser. But the work was well worth it. The kids were great and created some beautiful pieces. I was so excited pulling out each order! It was like having my birthday in November! =) Anyways, thanks to all the parents that helped in getting the work ready to ship and hand out, my job was made alot easier. So that was Wednesday.
Yesterday was a killer. I had five classes. K-5. Plus I had the head of the program meet with me during a short break to teach me how to use the kiln which was great. I've been stressing over that a bit. I did take ceramics in school, but I never was too interested in the kiln. Therefore, I didn't learn anything about operating it. Which was not smart on my end. I should have taken the time to learn as much as I could when I had the opportunity. Oh well. I know now.
Today I have all day to work on the commission. So I'll probably end up going to the gym, cleaning house, doing laundry, washing the dogs, and doing whatever else I can find besides painting. Just kidding. I'll be painting. Until next time...breathe, be thankful, and find patience.
